Snowflake Layered Mints

Yes!  You can use Young Living’s Vitality line of essential oils in your food!  Isn’t that exciting?  One of my favorite ways to use Young Living’s Peppermint and Spearmint Vitality Oils is in chocolate.  Watch how I make these simple (but spectacular) snowflake layered mints.

There isn’t a recipe for these mints because the transfer sheets come in a variety of sizes, so one recipe isn’t going to work for all those options.  However, it is very simple.  Melt some chocolate, I used Wilbur’s white and dark chocolate coating in this video, and add the essential oils two drops at a time.  Simply add the oils, taste the chocolate (it’s a hardship I’m willing to endure) and then add more oils as you wish.  You can’t take flavor back out of chocolate, but you can certainly take it slowly and test until you’re happy with the flavor.  I found that the combination of peppermint and spearmint make a very fresh, complex, and wonderful thin snowflake mint.

If you try this, I hope you’ll let me know.  I’d love to hear what you think.Carmen Signature - Copy - Copy (2)

Non-Toxic Cleaning

I live in a tiny house and I can have it “clean” by 10 am, “clean-clean” by noon, and “Mennonite clean” by 3:00 pm.  LOL!  That’s been the running joke around here for quite some time!  My Austrian says I need to add “guy clean” into that mix somewhere, lol!  I make and use my own cleaning products and enjoy the happy healthy fragrance of a healthy non-toxic environment and you can also – and it’s surprisingly easy.  I had a pretty good shock the other day when I downloaded an app to my cell phone and started looking up various cleaners that I’ve used over the years.

Common household cleaners:

toxin level on a scale of 1-10, ten being the most toxic

Clorox Cleaner with Bleach: 9     Clorox Formula 409: 9

Lysol All Purpose Cleaner: 9     Lysol Disinfectant Spray: 9

Febreze Air Effects: 9     Glade Air Freshener: 9

Windex Original Glass Cleaner: 9     Easy Off Oven Cleaner: 9

Download the “Think Dirty” App (YAY – it’s FREE!) and look up your favorite cleaning products to find out how toxic they are.  I apologize in advance for how upsetting and annoying this is.  I found myself really angry that companies would disregard the health of my family by putting these products out there.  The best part is – not that I know?  I can avoid them from here on out!  (And enjoy the health benefits of having them out of my life!)  Especially if you are using these cleaners around children, STOP!  No worries, no angst, just start fresh.  Ditch all that stuff!  I’ve got some much better options right here, and they are surprisingly simple to make.  And if you just don’t have the time to do much shopping or making this and that – then just go check out Thieves Household Cleaner.

Recipes for Homemade Non-Toxic Household Cleaners

Make small batches of cleaner, and rotate which oils you use to avoid contact sensitization.  PLUS – you get to enjoy a different scent each time you make a new batch.  Hint: write down these recipes and post on the inside of a kitchen cabinet door so that it’s always handy.

Simple Clean:

1 cup distilled water (use tap water when you intend to use all the solution in 2 weeks)

1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol (to make the water and oil emulsify – may omit)

15 drops of the essential oil or blend of your choice.

Combine in a spray bottle. Shake sprayer, saturate surface, then wipe with dry clean cloth.

All Purpose Clean:

1 cup distilled water

2 T to ¼ cup castile soap (Dr. Bronner’s) depending on how soapy you like it.

15 drops of the essential oil or blend of your choice.

Combine in a spray bottle.

Shake sprayer gently and wipe with a damp cloth, otherwise the castile soap will leave a soapy residue.

Vinegar Clean:

1/2 cup distilled water

1/2 cup white distilled vinegar

½ juiced lemon

15 drops of the essential oil or blend of your choice.

Combine in a spray bottle.  You may want to keep this one in the refrigerator because of the lemon juice.

Vinegar cleaner and citrus oils not for use on stone counter tops.

Thieves Household Cleaner:

1 teaspoon (1 cap full) Thieves Household Cleaner (an essential oil based non-toxic cleaning product) + two cups of water in a spray bottle. No additional essential oils required. More recipes using Thieves Household Cleaner.  You might notice that this is the simplest of all these recipes and doesn’t require a vast collection of essential oils.

It’s always a good idea to test a new cleaner in a hidden area to make sure it doesn’t damage the item in question.  I’ve never had any problems, but do it just to be safe.

HolidayUse as a dusting spray, carpet spot cleaner, toilet cleaner, kitchen counter spray, bathroom cleaning spray, daily shower cleaner, grout cleaner, mold remover, garden pest control, pet odor remover, floor cleaner, air freshening spray, stain spray/stain stick in the laundry, and as a bleach replacement. In short, this spray will banish the ICK from every area of your home including exercise equipment, toys, diaper pail, high chair, baseboards, pet areas, furniture, door knobs, walls, tires, luggage, car tires, and car interior.

If you try any of these, leave me a comment and let me know what you think.  I look forward to hearing from you!Carmen Signature - Copy - Copy (2)
